It’s that time of the year again. I started Sites and Communities last year and I’m glad to see this becoming an annual piece of writing. One of the reasons why I do this is to let the people behind these sites and communities know that their work is being noticed and appreciated. An example is my tweet showing the BD team some love. You can catch up on Sites and Communities from 2022 here if you haven’t read it.

So, here’s a rundown of my favourite sites and communities from 2023.

  1. Techpoint Africa: Similar to the BD Insider, Techpoint Africa is a digital media company that showcases the best technology innovations emerging from the continent of Africa. Founded by Adewale Yususf in 2015, Techpoint Africa connects investors, startups, developers, and tech enthusiasts alike through their engaging publications, insightful data, and impactful events. Their newsletter outlet, Techpoint Digest, also tells what is happening in the tech world while sharing job opportunities for tech enthusiasts. If you’re keen on more, you can subscribe here
  2. The Platform Africa: Before the month of May this year, I had never heard of Vusi Thembekwayo. When I stated this on WhatsApp, many of my friends were very shocked. I would later hear him speak at The Platform in May and boy o’ boy, I was filled with admiration.

Previously known as The Platform Nigeria, The Platform Africa is is a non-profit initiative founded by Pastor Poju Oyemade of the Covenant Christian Centre. Since its establishment in 2007, it has grown into a prominent platform for promoting individual, entrepreneurial and national development in Nigeria and Africa at large. On Nigeria’s Independence day this year, Prof. Patrick Lumumba delivered a resounding speech that prompted introspection and reflection. In his words,

“The day Nigeria becomes great is the day Africa becomes great”- Prof. Patrick Lumumba

3. Opportunity Desk: If you are keen on global opportunities (jobs, scholarships, grants) like myself, then OD is your go to for information. Founded by Grace Ihejiamaizu-Paul in 2012, Opportunity Desk provides a global platform for young people to access learning and growth opportunities through educational opportunities abroad, scholarships, training and conferences, fellowships, grants and awards, jobs, internships and volunteer programs. If this is for you, you can subscribe to their newsletter here for weekly opportunity alerts.

4. Subomi Plumptre’s newsletters: Over time and especially this year, I’ve come to admire Subomi Plumtre’s writings. I find it very concise, candid and empathetic. Her frequent thoughts on values, introversion and money resonate well with me. If you share similar interests, you can subscribe to her newsletter and view previous writings here. In addition to her newsletters, she is an SEC-licensed fund manager and co-founder of three major investment firms. If you’re keen on learning about investments, you can take advantage of her free course here. Don’t say I did not do anything for you this year.

5. Kemi Onabanjo-Joseph’s newsletters: Kemi Onabanjo is a management consultant, a world travel enthusiast and a lifestyle blogger. Out of admiration for her work, I subscribed to her newsletter when she presided over Covenant University’s Alumni Association (CUALA) for a second term. Amazingly during the year, I jumped on one of her giveaways — a book (UNLEASH) by Topsy Kola-Oyeneyin and I had the book delivered to me at half the cost. This is my show of public gratitude— something I’ll always cherish and be grateful for.

6. Koinonia Global: From 5pm to 10pm every Sunday, I wholly dedicate my time to watching Koinonia’s service. Founded by Apostle Joshua Selman, Koinonia is simply a place where Jesus is revealed and glorified. I hope that 2024 is the year I attend physically (winks at my Abuja people). You can always watch and listen to their services on Sundays from 5pm on YouTube and Mixlr.

I could keep writing but I’ll stop here. Here’s a big thank you to you for reading my blog posts from the start of the year till now. I’m grateful that you find them worthwhile. If you have resources (sites and communities) you believe I can draw knowledge from or you’d like me to be a part of, you can share them by replying this post or you can send me an email at goodjoshinfo@gmail.com. In addition, if you’ll like to receive a notification when I publish a story or have my posts directly sent to your mailbox, you can subscribe here.

Wishing you and yours a blessed festive season and a prosperous new year in advance.

Love and Light, always.
